چکیده

The interferometric imaging radar altimeter (InIRA) aboard the Chinese Tiangong-2 space laboratory is first spaceborne working at low incidence angles. This study focuses on retrieval of significant wave heights (SWHs) from InIRA data. retrieved SWHs can be used for correcting sea state bias InIRA-derived surface and supplement SWH products other sensors. First, we analyzed tilt, range bunching velocity modulations angles, found clear dependencies between two defined factors, azimuth integration, ocean waves in directions, respectively. These were further confirmed using measurements collocated WaveWatch III (WW3) Then, an empirical orthogonal model integration factors as inputs was proposed. segmented by angle, coefficients estimated fitting collocation each angle bin. Finally, data proposed model. retrievals validated both WW3 (JASON2, JASON3, SARAL, HY2A) SWHs. validation with shows a root mean square error (RMSE) 0.43 m, while average RMSE all traditional 0.48 m. indicates that to measure

A Model for Wind Speed and Wave Height Retrieval from Radar Altimeter Measurements

A numerical algorithm is here proposed to simulate the measurement of ocean wave height and wind speed by radar altimeter. The algorithm takes into account a realistic ocean wave spectrum and employs a parametric sub-model to simulate the electromagnetic waves scattering from the surface, thus providing greater flexibility and realism than the analytical models currently used. The model is show...

Effect of High-Frequency Sea Waves on Wave Period Retrieval from Radar Altimeter and Buoy Data

Wave periods estimated from satellite altimetry data behave differently from those calculated from buoy data, especially in low-wind conditions. In this paper, the geometric mean wave period is calculated from buoy data, rather than the commonly used zero-crossing wave period . The geometric mean wave period uses the fourth moment of the wave frequency spectrum and is related to the mean-square...

Interferometric Imaging Radar for Space Situational Awareness Satellite Characterisation

The three-dimensional imaging of satellites from a groundbased radar is considered in a space situational awareness context. Utilizing the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) tomographic formulation and a model of the collection geometry in a specific low Earth orbit scenario, the shape and repeat nature of collection passes from ascending and descending orbits is evaluated and constraints on the fo...

Estimate of significant wave height from non-coherent marine radar images by multilayer perceptrons

One of the most relevant parameters to characterize the severity of ocean waves is the significant wave height (Hs). The estimate of Hs from remotely sensed data acquired by non-coherent X-band marine radars is a problem not completely solved nowadays. A method commonly used in the literature (standard method) uses the square root of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) to linearly estimate Hs. This...

The Envisat Radar Altimeter System (RA-2)

The mission RA-2 has an essential role to play in the Envisat mission, as indicated in Table 1. Operating over oceans, its data can be used to monitor seasurface topography, thereby supporting research into ocean circulation and sea-level change, as well as providing observations of the sea floor structure or shape, and marine geoid characteristics. It will also be possible to determine near-se...
